Profitability Analysis of Korean Ginseng Production

Korean Ginseng is a well known agricultural product worldwide and has maintained its historical brand name originated from Korea so far. However, farmer s decision making process for farming practices is not clear because profitability analysis by farming practices has not been provided for individual farming. This study aims to analyze the profitability of Korean Ginseng to help farmer s decision making for the investment of Korean Ginseng production and the selection of farming practices. Two farms with 6-year production practice were surveyed for production cost and profitability analysis. The results show that currently both farms show positive profitability from Ginseng production. In addition, they gain from 6-year production practice compared to 4-year production practice. However, the sensitivity analysis shows that yield and quality uncertainty caused by nature and management skills may result in the choice of 4-year production practice.
