A Study on Building Production Bases of Environmentally Friendly Forest Products

Since demands for environmentally friendly forest products(EFFP) increase annually, this study aims to recommend direction for building production bases for EFFP in order to respond appropriately. For this, the study took actual-conditions analysis on farms producing EFFP. Results showed that the following are necessary for building production bases of EFFP: building integrated nutrient management and integrated pest management, securing production technology system for EFFP and building supply system under government-civilian cooperation, and a scheme to foster leaders who would guide production of EFFP. Together with this, in case of cultivation in mountainous region, numerous problems arise in the production of EFFP due to soil acidification caused by abusive use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers; to this end, as an institutional support system, the support system should be switched to and directed to supplying environmentally friendly substances such as organic matters and farmyard manure instead of supply in facilities. Moreover, in case of mountainous area which takes about 2/3 of the country, the implementation of environmentally friendly forestry poses as a means to attain a goal of harmony between forestry and nature; therefore, introducing direct-paying system limited to environmentally friendly forestry being implemented in mountainous area is needed as part of economical and policy incentive program for maintenance and preservation of healthy land.
