A Study of the Conjunction ‘SOREDE’ in Written Language

本稿では、書き言葉における「それで」の多様な意味用法を調査した。その結果は次の三つの点にまとめられる。第一に、書き言葉における「それで」は、「原因ー結果」の根拠により順接、順接∩非順接、非順接の3つの意味領域を持ち、また、非順接は話題の一貫性に基づき、展開と転換(話題転換/再言及)に分けられる、ということが分かった。第二に、書き言葉における「それで」は話し言葉と違った特徴を表わす。即ち、順接∩非順接の用法が存在するし、非順接の依頼の用法は存在しないことも分かった。第三に、書き言葉における「それで」の場合、文においての位置(段落の始めか中間か)と読点の有無も各々の機能に影響を及ぼす、ということが分かった。 このような結果には限られている用例に関する調査という制限はあるものの、ランダム方式による調査のもっている有意味な特徴まで看過することはできないと思われる。とくに類似表現である「そして」「だから」との相違点を明確できる、ひとつの基層資料として活用できるだろうと思う。

In this study, I have surveyed a variety of meaning uses of ‘SOREDE’ in written language. The result is summarized in the following three points. First, ‘SOREDE’ in written language may be validated by three meanings (‘Causal conjunction,’ ‘Causal conjunction∩Non-causal conjunction,’ ‘Non causal conjunction’). This can be done on the grounds of “the cause−result,” and, additionally the non causal conjunction can be divided into the categories of development and switch (topic switch/re-reference) based on the consistency of the topic in the context. Second, ‘SOREDE’ in written language refers to different characteristics in spoken language. In other words, the results in which the use of the ‘Causal conjunction∩Non causal conjunction’ exists and the use of the request of the Non causal conjunction does not exist in ‘SOREDE’ are different between written and spoken language. Third, in the case of ‘SOREDE’ in written language, I found that the position (the beginning or the middle of the paragraph) and the presence of a comma or the lack thereof in the text have an influence on each function. Although this study is intended for limited use cases of ‘SOREDE,’there will be some positive implications that could produce meaningful results through further investigations. Especially, such results can highlight clear differences in basic documents to distinguish between similar expressions such as ‘SOSITE,’ ‘DAKARA,’ and so on.
