This study aims to derive locations of high economic effects and high urban spatial efficiency for coffee shops, a rapidly growing business in Korea. Locations of coffee shops are analyzed by extracting relevant factors such as use districts, land prices, schools, transport and other facilities and performing Kernel density analysis, nearest neighbor analysis, and radius analysis for the district of Dunsan-dong, Daejeon city, Korea. These relevant factors can spatially analyze and quantitatively represent the locations of coffee shops in the aspect of urban planning. The analysis visually represents two quantitatively derived clusters. Based on district areas, the largest number of coffee shops are located in central commercial areas, and there is no significant relation with land prices. Radius analysis suggests that the number of coffee shops is high near large logistics facilities, public institutions, transport facilities, schools, and medical and welfare facilities, in the decreasing order. Such result is determined to be largely influenced by functions of neighboring major facilities and the size of adjacent commercial areas. The comparative analysis between franchise and general coffee shops shows relatively even distributions of coffee shops locations except a slightly greater number of general coffee shops in the third general residential areas. This results implies that private investors are increasing due to growing investment values of coffee shops. This research is meaningful as it enables selecting effective locations of new coffee shops considering urban spatial factors.
