Replacement of the tmj disc with deep temporal fascial flap

We replaced the temporo-mandibular joint discs with deep temporal fascial flaps on 8 joints in 6 patients who were diagnosed as internal derangement of TMJ. After the treatment, there were no pain or no limitation of motion, except intermittent joint sound on 4 joints. In MRI finding on one joint which was elapsed 6 months, we confirmed that replaced temporal fascia was well retained. Although, long term follow-up is needed, we think that temporal fascial flap could be one of materials for replacement of TMJ.
