We studied retrospectively the odontogenic maxillary sinusitis to obtain some useful data for diagnosis and treatment plan. This study included 37 patients with odontogenic maxillary sinusitis who visited and were treated at the Department of Oral Surgery, WonKwang University Dental Hospital. This report included distribution of sex, age, site, chief complaints, etiology, causative tooth, radiographic view and treatment method of ododtogenic maxillary sinusitis. The results were as follow: 1. The main causes of odontogenic maxillary sinusitis were periapical infection and periodontal infection, and the upper first molar was the most frequently involved tooth. Consequently, the maxillary first molar involved in periapical and periodontal infection had a potential to evoke maxillary sinusitis. 2. Odontogenic maxillary sinusitis was frequently occurred during the third and fourth decades. 3. Headache and toothache were the most common clinical findings, and intraoral pus discharge and halitosis were the next in sequence. And each patient showed average 2.2 clinical manifestations. It is considered that the patients who suffered from these clinical symptoms should be suspected as odontogenic maxillary sinusitis patient.
