Comparing with easily customed synthetic Hydroxylapatite and human bone, several assays on the chemical composition and physical properties of natural Hydroxylapatite which was abstracted from fishbone (Pollac). The results were as follows: 1. The chemical composition of natural Hydroxylapatite was very similar to that of human bone. 2. Through transmission electron microscopic findings, crystalloid configuration of natural Hydroxylapatite was recognizable. 3. Through scattered electron microscopic findings, the presence of micropores in the particles of natural Hydroxylapatite and three-dimensional passage of the pores could be seen. 4. Physically, natural Hydroxylapatite possessed higher ratio of surface area and porosity, lower specific gravity and smaller dimension of micropores compared with synthetic Hydroxylapatite. 5. The same diffraction image on X-ray diffraction analysis showed that natural Hydroxylapatite and synthetic Hydroxylapatite were same material. 6. In X-ray microanalysis the concentration of clacium and phosphate showed extremely high peak, and in Raman spectrum the band width of phosphate was thought to be related with the regularity of crystalloid structure of natural Hydroxylapatite, and the fact that X-ray diffraction was prominent was supposed to have meaningful relationships with these results. 7. In infrared absorption spectrum, some proteins which was supposed to have osteoconductivity could be seen in the powder of human scattered bone or teeth, however, in any kind of Hydroxylapatite was not discovered at all.
