In order to study the histocompatibility of natural Hydroxylapatite which was abstracted from Pollac bone, the author grafted natural Hydroxylapatite in the artificially formed bony defect of the inferior border of adult rabbit mandible. Left side of defect was sutured without graft as control and right side was grafted with A type(baked at 850℃) natural Hydroxylapatite in one rabbit. In the other rabbit, left side of bony defect was grafted with B type(baked at 1000℃) and right side with C type(baked at 1300℃). Each experiment was done on 4 bony defects of 2 rabbits as 1 unit, 14 rabbits in total of 7 unit experimental period were sacrificed at 1, 2, 4, 8, 12, 24, 48 weeks postoperatively. Through routine procedure of slide preparation via Hematoxylin-Eosin staining, following results were obtained light-microscopically, 1. New bone was well formed around natural Hydroxylapatite granules without inflammatory or foreign body reaction. 2. Though all the granules did not show same densities, resorption of natural Hydroxylapatite granules was not recognizable. 3. Untill 4 weeks period, new bone formation in grafted defects was better than in control, and C type was the fastest in the initiation of new bone formation and B type was the slowest. However any significant difference in maturation course could not be found among all types of natural Hydroxylapatite after 44 weeks postoperatively.
