Malignant melanoma in the region of the head and neck is a rare and threating disease. The primary malignant melanoma of the oral cavity represents less than 2 per cent of all malignant melanomas. The oral cavity contained half of the malignant melanomas with palate and alveolus predominating. This is the case report of the primary malignant melanoma on the palate. In the case of 52 old male patient, he was admitted to our department with the chief complaint of black discoloration and ulcerative lesion on the left palatal area. This lesion was treated by subtotal maxillectomy and prophylactic neck dissection. Postoperative biopsy revealed metastatic malignant melanomas in 2 out of 9 lymph nodes. So we thought that prophylactic regional lymph node dissection was significant.
