In order to compare the healing process of the cryosurgical wound and usual wound, 14 Sprague-Dawley rats (200-250gm) were used in this experimental study. Cryosurgical wound was made by Frigitronics OE-80 Cryosurgical system on the right buccal mucosa and conventional wound was made by usual method on the left side, each size of the wound was about 5㎜ in diameter and 2.5㎜ in depth. 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 14, 21 days after operation we observed the specimens grossly and histopathologically, so we have got following results.; Grossly, the wound healing was faster in cryosurgical wound than usual wound. In cryosurgical wound, there was no definite scar formation with no apparent granulation tissue formation, but there was considerable amount of granulation tissue formation in usual wound. Repair of epithelial layer was achieved 3 days after operation in cryosurgical wound and 5 days in usual wound. After 14 days, the both wounds were healed almost same as normal tissue pattern, but regeneration of the damaged muscle fibers was more favorable in the cryosurgical wound.
