Elongation of the styloid process or ossification of the stylohoid ligament have been implicated in various syndromes involving the head and neck. Styloid process is a slender, pointed bone of variable length, which project downward, forward, and slightly medialward from the posteroinferior protion of the tympanic portion of the temporal bone. Elongation of the sytloid process is not rare, comprising, depending upon various reports, from 4%, 18.2% to as high as 28%. Symptomatic elongated styloid process, however, is comparatively rare. We have come cross a woman, 34 years of age, who had been suffering from vague rightsided pharyngeal and temporomandibular joint discomfort of a 4 years duration. Palpation on the right tonsillar fossa has revealed a hard bony stump. Various radiography showed a right elongated styloid process and a left normal process. Operation, the technique of which was described by Eagle, was performed. The ressected styloid process was 3.0㎝. in it s length. The operation wound was healed by first intention for five days, and the dysphagia and T.M.J. pain was completely disappeared without further complication.
