MALIGNANT MELANOMA : CASE REPORT AND REVIEW OF LITERATURE

Malignant melanoma is rare in Asian and the poorer prognostic disease. In general, melanoma has 2 growth phases: the radial growth phase or premalignant melanoma which is characterized by atypical melanocytes within epithelial cells and vertical growth phase is characterized by malignant epitheloid melanocytes invading the underlying connective tissue. This is the case report of malignant melanoma. In the case of 63 old male patient, he was admitted to our department with the chief complaint of black colored swelling on the Rt. maxillary posterior edentulous area. In this case, melanoma occurred oral mucosa and its lesion was subjected to nodular type. The histologic appearance was that of multiple pigmented malignant melanoma and metastasis was not seen in this lesion. This lesion was treated by surgical excision in order to prevent invasion to underlying tissue. However, through follow-up check for 5 months, recurrence was showed. So we thought the importance of prophylactic regional lymph nocle dissection.
