The specific lesion known as amputation or traumatic neuroma is not a true neoplasm, but represents an attempt at regeneration by the proximal portion of a severed peripheral nerve. It is essentially a hyperplasia of nerve fibers and their investing tissues. Trauma to a peripheral nerve results in a particular complete cessation of conduction and produces a disturbance in the motor, sensory, reflex, vasomotor, and trophic functions in the area supplied. Etiologic factors may be pressure, ischemia, crushing injuries, cuts, lacerations, stretching, and bleeding into the surrounding tissues. This is to report a case of amputation neuroma occured in the masseteric region of 22 year-old woman after the surgical excision of lymphangioma.
