The purpose of this study is to evaluate the healing process of bony defects which produced by rotary instruments with saline solution coolant and without coolant. 10 Rabbits, weighing approximately 2.0kg were used far this study and two cavities, 2.0mm in diameter, were formed on the each side of mandible border. Right side, with saline solution coolant, was experimental group and left side, without coolant, was control group. The experimental animals were sacrified at 3rd day,1st week, 2nd week and 4th week after the surgery and prepared microscopic slides with Hematoxylin-Eosin stain for histopathological examination. The Results were as follows. 1. Osteocytic degeneration was decreased at the first week in experimental group and decreased at the second week in control group. 2. Inflamatory cell infiltration was found at early stage in all groups and gradually decreased in the first week and replaced with granulation tissue. The Fibrosis was found at the first week. 3. New bone formation around cavities was found in the first week in all groups, and marked new bone formation in the second week. The difference between two groups was not noted. 4. Periosteal bone formation was found at the 3rd day in experimental group and found at the first week in control group. 5. It was presumed that the minimal bony trauma led less necrotic bone formation in this study.
