The fibrous dysplasia of bone is a benign, slow growing tumor of bone that tends to have its greatest growth in the second decade of life. It is a lesion of a unknown etiology, uncertain pathogenesis and diverse histopathology. A fibrous dysplasia tends to occur more frequently in women than in men and is seen more often in the maxilla than in the mandible. This neoplasm may obliterate the maxillary sinus and may extend into other bone including orbital rim and zygoma. But it does not invade the nasal structures. Treatment of fibrous dysplasia by complete excision is seldom possible. Resection is certainly not indicated. The surgical treatment, therefore, should be restricted to obtaining a good facial cosmetic result or remodeling the process to improve denture retention. The author had treated a patient, 11-year-old female, with fibrous dysplasia of large size in the maxilla involving maxillary sinus, zygoma and orbital rim. Under the general anesthesia, the operation was performed by conservative treatment with remodeling of alveolar bone in the maxilla according to normal anatomic contour. By follow up check of the patient, the author observed good results without recurrence and expansion of lesion.
