The purpose of this study was to investigate the fractures of the facial skeleton; mandible, maxilla and zygoma. I observed clinically 105 patients with facial bone fractures who visited the department of dentistry, Chung Nam National University Hospital from June 1980 to July 1981. The results obtained were as follows. 1. The most incidence of fractured site was in the mandible (78.2%), the next was in the zygoma (11.6%) and in the maxilla (10.3%). 2. The highest age incidence was at the 20th age group. 3. The most etiologic factor of the fractures was traffic accidents (42.3%), and the next was fist blow (28.9%), fall down (14.5%), working (8.7%) and others in order. 4. The anterior portion of the mandible was the most common fractured area (33.3%). 5. The ratio of right side of the mandible to left side was 45 :68. 6. The ratio of male to female was about 7:1. 7. The first choice of treatment was the closed reduction, especially in the mandible fractures. Even in maxilla and zygoma, closed reduction was occasionally performed to treat the simple fracture. And I recommend the closed reduction for the treatment of facial bone fractures if possible.
