The purpose of the following experimental study was aimed at the effects of pulverized tooth roots on the healing process of extraction sockets. 24 healthy albino rats were used, each weighing 200-250 gr.. They were divided into 6 groups, and were fed on balanced diet. The maxillary anterior tooth of rat was extracted with tissue forceps and excarvators as aseptic and atraumatic as possible under the general anesthesia with sodium pentothal 25mg/kg wt.. The root was separated from the extracted tooth and the pulp at the root portion was extirpated. The extracted root was immersed into the solution of Streptomycin for 5-6 hours, and then put into the electrical oven which was maintained at 45℃ for 30 minutes. The desiccated root was pulverized with mortar and pestle. The pulverized powder of each sample was inserted into the extraction socket of it s own maxillary left molar. To compare healing processes with experimental socket, the right maxillarymolar of it s own was extracted. The results obtained are as follows: 1. The pulverized root particles in socket began to be resorbed from 4 days after extraction and resolved completely in 7 days. 2. The healing of experimental sockets was accelerated slightly at early stage. 3. It seemed that the pulverized roots did not generally contribute to accelerate the healing process of extraction sockets.
