Although many studies on various phases of maxillo-facial bone fractures have been presented, many still have limited to mandibular bone fractures. Clinically the author has analyzed fracture locations, age distributions, etiologic distributions, and types of fractures. Roentgenographically, the fracture lines were drawed on a tracing paper. The data for this study were compiled from 351 patients of maxillo-facial bone fractures treated at the Department of Oral Surgery, College of Dentistry, Seoul National University between 1971 and 1975. The results obtained are as follows, 1. The most frequent were fracture lines on mandible(88.8%), the next were zygoma(6.2%), maxilla(5.0%) in order. 2. The left symphysis region was the most commonly fractured(25.1%). The right and left side were in the ratio of 284:191. 3. Frequency of the fractures was the highest in age group of the third decade(45.3%) and males(289 Pts.) were involved 4.5 times as frequently as females(62 pts.). The two major etiologic factors were traffic accidents(42.2%) and fist fight (35.3%). 4. There were 4 pathologic fractures and all were due to osteomyelitis.
