체육에서의 적절한 활동에 대한 초등교사의 인식

Classroom Teachers Perceptions of Appropriate Activities in Elementary Physical Education

이 연구의 목적은 경기도 및 인천지역의 초등교사들이 체육에서 어떠한 활동들이 적절하다고 믿고 있는가를 조사하는 것이다. 2003년도에 00 교육대학교에서 일급정교사 자격연수 를 수강한 47명의 초등교사들을 대상으로 체육에서의 수치의 전당 (Hall of Shame in Physical Education : Williams, 1992, 1994)에 대한 견해를 조사하였다. 수치의 전당 I 에서 Williams의 활동에 50.0%의 초등교사들(70/140)이 수정 방안을 제시하거나 동의하지 않았다. 가장 논란이 많았던 활동 은 피구, 발야구와 릴레이였다. 수치의 전당 II 항목 중에서 가장 논란이 많았던 술래잡기(Tag)는 56.0%(14/25)에 달하는 초등교사들이 수정을 제안하거나 동의하지 않았고, 지저분한 뒷마당과 시몬 가라사대(Simon says)가 그 뒤를 이었다. 대부분의 초등교사들은 이런 활동들이 체육교육과정에 부적절한 활동들이라고 지적을 하였다. 전반적으로 초등교사들은 아무런 의식 없이 당연하게 생각했던 활동들이 수치의 전당에 포함된다는 것을 발견하였고 체육에서 가르쳐야 할 내용에 대하여 다시 생각해보게 되었다는 것이다.

The purpose of this study was to investigate classroom teachers the perceptions of appropriate activities in elementary physical education. The subjects were 47 classroom teachers who took Inservice Training Program for the First Degree Master Teacher , taught by the investigator of this study in 2003. The perceptions of classroom teachers about Hall of Shame in Physical Education (Williams, 1992, 1994) were examined in detail. Overall, the preservice teachers agreed with Williams in 50.0% (70/140) of the citations in PEHOS I . The most controversial activities were Dodgeball, Kickball, and Relay Races. In PEHOS II , Tag was the most controversial activity, with 14 out 25 preservice teachers disagreing with Williams, and followed by Messy Back Yard and Simon Says . Most classroom teachers believed that these activities are inappropriate for elementary physical education curricula without any modifications. Overall, they found that those taken for granted activities frequently used without consciousness during physical education were Hall of Shame inductees. This led them to rethink how physical education might be taught.
