영어 학습 배경과 목표 구문의 종류가 담화 문법의 적절성 판단에 미치는 영향 

This study explored how differently two groups of Korean English learners (Group A, n = 50; Group B, n = 35) and one group of English native speakers (Group C, n = 15) would perceive three discourse-sensitive grammatical constructions (i.e., the passive, ditransitive, and it-cleft). The two learner groups were differentiated in terms of their study background: Group A had no experience studying abroad, whereas Group B had spent at least three years in English-speaking countries. Data were collected through listening and reading tests (k = 30, respectively) and a post-test survey. The results showed that Group C in both test materials outperformed the other two groups. The overall average scores of Group B were higher than those of Group A. The participants’ performances, however, were mediated by the types of the target constructions. It was found that Group A at the reading test performed best in judging the acceptability of the it-cleft constructions. As indicated by the post-test survey results, they might have worked in an analytical way in the judgment tests, while the other two groups may have relied more on their own intuition. More findings and implications are presented, along with some suggestions for future research. (199 words)
