Relationships among Lifestyle, Image Management Behavior, and Psychological Well-being of New Senior Men

The purpose of this research is to analyze the effects of lifestyles of senior men in their 50s to 60s on image management behavior. Also, this study investigates the effects of image management behavior on psychological well-being. A total of 300 respondents participated in the survey which targeted senior men in their 50s to 60s. Collected data were used for statistical analysis using SPSS 24. Descriptive statistics, frequency analysis, reliability, factor analysis, regression analysis were conducted. The findings indicated that there were significant effects of lifestyle factors such as pursuit of health, social interaction, and pursuit of materialism on image management behavior. These lifestyle factors positively influenced body/appearance management, beauty/cosmetic surgery management, and clothes/fashion management. However, the pursuit of safety positively influenced clothes/fashion management only. In addition, image management behavior of senior men significantly influenced psychological well-being. Body/appearance management and clothes/fashion management significantly influenced life satisfaction while clothes/fashion management significantly influenced ego achievement. This study may help enterprises in the fashion, beauty and medical industries develop new products for enhancing the image and lifestyle of senior men in their 50s and 60s in an aging society.
