I have looked into the linguistic situation and language policy in India. The language issue in recent years has kept an eye on national language. A language reflects its identity for the society and functions as the unity. Language is one of the most important links between the society and an individual. Therefore I have addressed Hindustani as a national language for the symbol of national unity. Hindustani might be a last resort for India. Hindustani is a lingua franca of northern and central India spoken by both Hindus and Muslims. Due to the Hindi-Devnagri vs. Urdu-Nastaliq movement during the British colony, Hindustani was artificially separated into Hindi and Urdu. Hindustani may face challenges from advocates of English and non-Hindi speakers, but nobody disputes the necessity of a national lingua franca for India. In this paper, I have also showed a brief situation of Hindi education in Korea. Moreover, it has been suggested why Hindustani can be taught and how translation pedagogy can be useful for learning Hindi and Urdu.
