A Policy Suggestion for National Foreign Language Translation Center in Korea:

This paper aims at the National Public Translation Center (NPTC) feasibility as a community service. As a success model of a public translation center, this paper considered Directorate General for Translation (DGT) in European Union(EU) and Foreign Language Translation Center (FLTC) in Korea Tourism Organization (KTO). Seen from the success of FLTC, this paper suggests the gradual process and the modular model for NPTC relevant organizations, anticipating each relevant module s cooperation and guaranteed autonomy on one hand, and the incorporation of technology for efficiency and efficacy on the other hand; the public translation center will ultimately improve the quality of translation and contribute to the global standard. Moreover it will positively correspond to the government’s creative economy by cultivating translator pools for a new generation and by creating new jobs.
