A text reflects the world view or ideology of an individual or the community as a whole. Newspaper articles are often regarded as a means of delivering facts, and are categorized as an informative text. This study, however, refutes such a prevalent belief. This research aims to explore the features of translation, transediting, and reporting of South Korea s National Security Law, a country-specific concept, which was widely covered by the foreign press. Based on the assumption that news articles do not merely deliver facts, but reconstruct and pack the facts to express and manipulate ideology, the author compares how such an ideology differs between South Korea s English newspapers and Western newspapers, and will categorize the subtle manoeuvres employed by the reporters. The data used for the analysis includes 60 articles from the foreign press and 68 articles from the Korea Times; editorials and the like were excluded, as they expressively disclose the ideology and make suggestions.
