A Research of Webtoon Translation from Korean into Chinese

As Hallyu, or the Korean Wave as it is known abroad, continues its expansion, it is webtoons that are emerging as the new rising star of the movement. It has even reached the point that fans overseas in the webtoon communities have taken to illegally translating and sharing translations among themselves. The response to this has been to set up domestic portal sites that offer officially translated and published webtoons, but due to a lack of specialized translators that understand the unique characteristics that webtoons have, the process has not been without difficulties. To overcome these difficulties, this study viewed the characteristics of webtoon and established the strategies that produce proper webtoon translations. Furthermore, some discussions about the punctuation, and the imitative or mimetic language and so on, based on the translation practice, has been taken as well.
