초등학교 경영을 위한 긍정적 행동지원(PBS) 방법 연구

An approach to the Positive Behavioral Supports in elementary school

본 연구는 긍정적 행동지원의 의미와 원리들을 살펴보고, 특히 한국의 초등학교 차원에서 적용할 수 있는 보편적 차원의 긍정적 행동지원의 원리 및 적용 절차를 탐색하였다. 학교차원의 긍정적 행동지원은 지난 20년간 미국을 중심으로 크게 확대되고 있다. 3단계로 적용되는 것이 일반적인데, 1단계는 모든 학생들에게 적합한 행동을 유도하고 강화하는 것이고, 2단계는 표적화 된 중재로서 1 단계에 부응하지 못하는 학생들이 대상이 되며, 3단계는 2단계의 중재에도 부응하지 못하는 학생들에게 개별화 집중 지원이 이루어진다. 이 중, 가장 보편적으로 적용할 수 있는 1단계를 중심으로 그 전개 과정 및 특징을 살펴보았다. 주요 내용으로는 학교의 구체적인 목적 설정, 팀 구성, 긍정적인 풍토를 조성하고 공통된 언어와 비전 형성, 학교 규칙을 선 정, 기대하는 행동에 대해 직접적인 교육, 정해진 간격에 따라 관련 데이터 수집, 모든 교직원에 대한 교육과 안내 등이다. 학교차원의 긍정적 행동지원은 초등학생들의 문제행동을 감소시키고, 학교조직에 대한 긍정적 인식을 높여줄 것이다.

School-wide Positive Behavioral Support focuses on interventions in order to meet the social behavioral demands of schools with the help of a three-tiered model. The aims of PBS are to ensure social behavior and academic success of students in schools. This study were conducted to review the system, principle and practice of PBS and to apply to elementary schools in Korea. The PBS is designed to happen at three different levels: Tier 1- all behavioral expectations are defined and students receive direct instruction of expected behaviors (universal supports), Tier 2- Tier 1 support continues and is supplemented by increased structure, increased adult feedback, and monitoring of student performance (targeted interventions), Tier 3- Tier 1 and Tier 2 supports continue and are supplemented by an individualized intervention plan (intensive supports). Especially, the tier 1 (universal level) of School-wide Positive Behavior Support will apply to impact change within elementary school systems generally. The main features of tier 1 are statement of purpose, leadership team, select school rules, define behavior expectations, teach behavioral expectations, and collect data for decision-making or evaluation. School-wide PBS would influence positively on a climate of school and reduce the problem behaviors of students.
