수성구는 어떻게 ‘대구의 강남’이 되었나?

How could Suseong District be the ‘Gangnam of Daegu’?

본 연구는 대구 수성구에서 나타나는 강남 따라하기의 과정을 살펴본다. 이를 위해 수성구가 어떠한 역사적 과정과 맥락 속에서 ‘대구의 강남’이라는 로컬리티를 형성하게 되었는지를 파악하고, 그 결과로 형성된 오늘날 수성구의 특징들을 고급 아파트 단지, 명문학교가 밀집된 교육자본의 허브, 고급 거주환경 세 요소로 나누어 분석하였다. 결론적으로, ‘강남화’를 한국의 지배적인 도시이데올로기로서 이해하기 위해서는 ‘원조 강남’의 형성에 초점을 맞춘 강남 만들기뿐만 아니라 지방도시에서 작동하는 강남 따라하기도 주목해야 함을 강조한다. 본 연구를 위하여 신문기사, 정부보고서 등의 문헌검토를 하였으며, 수성구 거주민에 대한 심층인터뷰를 시도했다.

This paper aims to reveal the way in which Suseong District as a ‘Gangnam of Daegu’ is materially and discursively constructed by diverse social actors. As a result, we categorized the spatial properties of Suseong District into three elements: luxurious apartment, elite high school area, and luxurious residential environment. The article emphasizes that the impacts of the ideological processes of ‘Gangnam-ization’ should be understood as existing beyond the physical, symbolic and administrative boundaries of the ‘original Gangnam’, in cities that follow the Gangnam model. For this research, we reviewed documents (including newspapers and government reports, etc.) and conducted in-depth interviews.
