네트워크 분석을 통한 서울 도시 씬(urban scene)의 이해

Modeling Urban Scene Using Network Analysis The Case of Seoul

본 논문은 도시의 문화 장소성 연구의 하나인 도시 씬 이론의 방법론적 한계를 고찰하고 이를 보완할 수 있는 방법론을 제시한 것이다. 도시 씬 이론은 도시의 일상생활 여건, 특히 문화생활 여건이 도시 성장 및 공동체 재생에 핵심적인 역할을 한다는 것에 주목한 이론이다. 문화생활 여건 분석을 위하여, 도시 씬 연구는 도시 내 분포해 있는 어메니티를 다양한 하위 요소로 나누어 그 점수를 계량적으로 도출하는 방법론을 주로 사용하였다. 하지만, 이러한 연구들은 도시 내 어메니티의 공간적 조합을 파악할 수 없다는 한계를 가지고 있다. 이 연구는 이러한 한계를 극복하기 위하여 새로운 방법론을 모색한 것이다. 즉, 기존 도시 씬 방법론에서 다루지 않았던 각 어메니티 간의 상호 거리, 그리고 각 업종 간 상대거리와 업종 내 밀집도를 분석하여, 도시 씬 점수로 설명하기 힘든 각 도시 간 문화적 특징의 구체적 차이를 파악하였다. 이를 위해 도시 씬의 하위 요소 중 세 가지 영역(전통주의, 화려함, 지역주의)을 선택하여, 서울시 내 5개 자치구에서 발견되는 어메니티의 공간적 분포와 상호 연결성을 비교하였다. 또한 각 자치구 내 세 가지 영역별 어메니티의 공간적 분포를 구체적으로 파악하기 위한 도시 씬 네트워크 지도를 제시하였다. 이를 통해 도시 씬 점수만으로는 파악하기 힘든 공간적인 특징을 분석하였다. 이러한 점에서 본 연구는 향후 도시 씬 연구를 위한 새로운 방법론적 대안을 제시했다고 할 수 있다.

This paper suggests new methodological approach to the urban scene theory which deals with cultural amenities in the cities. The urban scene theory focuses on the role of the cultural amenities in the process of urban growth and community regeneration. The urban theory proposes various cultural dimensions, such as traditionality and ethnicity, to describe cultural conditions of the cities, and the theory calculate the scene scores of each dimensions of the cities for the inter-city comparison. The current scene studies, however, show their limits in explaining the spatial structure of the amenities in the cities. This paper, using network analysis of amenities, propose new method to overcome the limits of the current scene studies. The study analyzes the distances of the amenities, their inter-connectedness, and densities of the amenities, which shows detailed structure of the cultural amenities in the cities. In so doing, the study selects 3 sub-dimensions of scene (traditionality, glamour, localism) and applies the network analysis to the 5 districts of Seoul to draw network map of the amenities in the districts. It can be said that the study open a new methodolocal way for the urban scene theory.
