고대 아테네 민주주의와 광장 민주주의: 러시아혁명 민주주의 검토의 전제

고대 아테네의 소극적이고 또한 적극적인 자유와 평등의 원리를 실현한 상설총회와 추첨 형식의 민주 주의는 현대 민주주의를 넘어선 진정한 민주주의였다. 고대 아테네 민주주의는 인민의 능력, 자기통치의 체제이자 이상으로서의 개념을 실현했다는 점에서 현대 민주주의와 비교해서 우월할 뿐만 아니라 그에 대한 대안모델이다. 그래서 현대 민주주의를 넘어서려는 광장 민주주의나 대안사회의 민주주의는 고대 아테네 민주주의에서 나오게 될 것이다.

Ancient Athenian democracy is superior and alternative to contemporary democracy in that it realized the concept of people’s ability and self-governing as system and ideal.
