This study aims to propose interpreter training ideas based on the analysis of the current situation and training needs of the profession assessed from the perspective of Korean-English interpreters. In order to collect data, a small-scale interview was conducted with 13 participants consisting of professional and student interpreters. The data was analyzed qualitatively to discover meaningful insights for interpreter training. The findings from data analysis were mapped onto Albl-Mikasa’s interpreter competence model in order to highlight those skills that require further attention from trainers. The results indicate that the spread of ELF and growing difficulty of interpreting assignments are placing greater pressure on the interpreters than in the past; interpreters are increasingly required to be equipped with specialized knowledge; situated learning needs to be expanded in interpreter training; and, instruction of interpreting skills and strategies should be carried out more systematically. The study concludes with training proposals based on the findings with ideas for their implementation.
