A STUDY OF GROUPTHINK IN OPEN COLLABORATION PLATFORM

Nowadays, the term collective intelligence has become familiar to many people. Based on Open Collaboration Platform (OCP), collective intelligence has developed more extensive than ever in many fields. And many scientific studies have raised and demonstrated the positive effects when people become the community participants in order to share knowledge, experience together in OCP. Most of the research results indicated that when people gathered into the discussion together to make a decision, the quality of the group decision is better than individual decision. But in fact, the results are sometimes completely opposite. So what is the reason? Through an experimental study with respondents are members joined in Vietnam online communities, the research conducted to find out the cause of this problem. This study tries to find the factors causing a negative impact on the quality of group decisions in online community and discovered the phenomenon Groupthink- a theory proposed by scholar Janis and has been studied by many scientists over the last 40 years in the field of social psychology, management and organizational theory, and this is the reason of the problem above. The results of this experimental study provided a foundation for future studies continue to expand research on the phenomenon Groupthink in OCP basing on comparison between Vietnam and other countries.
