The purpose of this study is to suggest a teacher training program for EFL deaf students through English cued speech. Korean students have been beneficiaries of English education for more than 130 years. As such, deaf students have a right to be among the English education beneficiaries. After the passage of the Disability Discrimination Act in 2013, Korean disabled students have steadily integrated into regular education classes which use English teachers. It is the purpose of the study to determine if English cued speech is an effective approach for English instruction to deaf student. English cued speech was developed by Dr. Orin Cornett for deaf education in order to solve literacy problems. However, because cued speech instruction is based on oral English language mastery, the pre-condition of using cued speech is that EFL teachers know and are able to use English fluently. The basic cued speech training programs are comprised of three sections: hand shapes, consonants, and vowels. This study suggests the need for EFL teachers who teach integrated classes with disabled students, especially deaf students, to have cued speech teacher training.
