The problem of domestication and foreignization in translation

The purpose of this article is to study the problem of domestication and foreignization in translation by focusing on theoretical aspects. Domestication is one of the translation strategies which purports to minimize foreignness of the source text and produce a natural, fluent target text. Foreignization is a strategy which is used to preserve foreignness of the original and break conventions of the target culture. This article purports to study the problem of domestication and foreignization in translation, which is related to such issues like literal vs. semantic translation, fidelity vs. readability, source text vs. target text oriented approaches.
