Languages and Cultures in Translation Studies

After the occurrence of a cultural change in translation studies, translation has come to be generally regarded as a cultural-mediation act, yet the concept of culture has thus far been difficult to define. How can culture be defined, and what kind of empirical evidence is needed to prove the existence of specific cultures? For the European Union (EU), language and culture integrate Europe and guarantee its identity, thus making them significantly important. The lifelong education policy based on multilingualism and multiculturalism encourages linguistic diversity within EU, boosts mutual understanding, and enhances respect for diverse life styles and cultures associated with cultural diversity. New studies on language and culture should thus be conducted in addition to the past studies. Specifically, their results should be combined and shared.
