Korean-English Bibles are suggestive with regards to how a source text can be better understood through multilingual comparisons and the efficacy of using multilingual comparisons to learn English. A recent translation of the Bible into Korean, the Easy Bible (EB; 쉬운성경), has been placed beside two different dynamic equivalent English Bibles, the New Living Translation (NLT), and the American-vernacular the Message (MSG). Although both English versions are based on a dynamic equivalence philosophy, they read quite differently. By analyzing the process of mental translation used by native Korean speakers when using multilingual comparisons to read the EB-MSG and EB-NLT, this study investigates how greater understanding of the source documents occurs, and secondly how the comparison of the multilingual translations functions as a means of learning English. This study suggests that the process of reading multilingual comparisons of these Korean-English Bibles does aid in the acquisition of English for non-native speakers. Furthermore, clarity in understanding is related to the cultural capacity of a language.
