This paper compares CEO greetings translations for firms to see if readability differs between those of younger CEOs and older CEOs. This paper hypothesizes that the readability of translations should be different between two age groups. Based on the evidence from a sample of 100 CEO greetings, the results of this study do not support this hypothesis. Specifically, translation readability of the younger CEOs greetings are not significantly different from that of the older CEOs . This study also finds differential readability management practices between the two age groups in choosing word length and sentences length, the two determinants of readability index. Results suggest that the younger corporate leaders take a more effective approach to making their messages more readable for outside information users. This paper adds to the literature on the relationship between the translator s sociolinguistic characteristics and translation quality.
