The Current Research and its Prospect on Translationese Problems

This paper has two purposes; one is to survey the current trend of research related to translationese problems, and the other is to propose the future subjects to overcome some negative effects of translationese expressions. The author has suggested the two practical methods to overcome those negative effects according to their effectiveness. One is called as the short-term allopathic treatment, and the other as the long-term preventive treatment. For the former, the author has allegedly maintained that translators could successfully overcome the difficulty in bridging the structural differences and safely produce desirable target texts by using the progressive translation techniques based on the common trend of thought. Additionally, the deep research of contrastive grammar between ST and TT should be further digged out, as in those of the shift of plurality and the mobility of viewpoint. For the latter, the author has suggested that translators should master the typical traits of structure and words in TT and use them in their real work.
