‘南道コリア’의 일본어 번역 오류에 관한 연구

A Study on the Korean-into-Japanese Mistranslations in Namdo Korea

The present study analyzes grammatical errors in Korean-into-Japanese translations in the Internet portal site Namdo Korea, which promotes tourism in and culture of Gwangju and other areas around Jeollanam-do. In particular, we focus on frequently-made errors and mistakes in the Japanese text regarding aspectual expressions, bound nouns, and postpositional particles. Through this study, we discovered that the main reason these errors are made is because most translators do not fully understand the aspectual meanings of adnominal endings in adnominal clauses in Korean aspectual expressions. As a result, they fail to use Japanese aspectual expressions equivalent to Korean ones. Furthermore, most errors concerning bound nouns result from the fact that the translators do not clearly recognize the various forms and uses of the Japanese bound noun equivalent to the Korean “Geot”, which only appears in one form. As for the errors about postpositional particles, translators do not adequately interpret the various grammatical functions and uses of Japanese adverbial particles in Korean. As a result of this, the latter language does not have the equivalent functions and uses of its adverbial particles like the former. Therefore, translators seem unable to use Japanese postpositional particles equivalent to Korean ones, which causes grammatical errors.
