The economic crisis that swept across the Korean society in the late 1990s led to a crisis in human science and during the same period, the departments of French language and literature tried to escape the crisis by introducing subjects related to so-called “regional studies”. Due to the lack of a long-term vision and small market of regional studies, however, the departments effort to introduce regional studies gained a smaller success than it had hoped. That is why we expect that translation studies that have advantages in terms of marketability and interrelationship with French language and literature will provide a way forward for French language and literature departments. To make this happen, a rule-of-thumb curriculum and a complacent view of the reality that appeared in the introduction process of regional studies should not be repeated. Therefore, this study proposes a bold curriculum of Translation Studies applicable in Graduate School of French language and literature, different from those of existing graduate schools of interpretation and translation that are the first runners in Translation Studies.
