Consecutive Interpretation and Note-taking

The purpose of this study is to find out problems arising from note-taking, which is essential for consecutive interpretation, and to suggest how to solve them. I suggested how to use note-taking symbols, abbreviations, and shortened forms of words efficiently in order to save time and to overcome time lag, I also showed how to take advantage of background knowledge about the topics of speeches in order to reduce the burden of note-taking. Finally, I suggested that it is important to develop the ability to listen to a speech and take notes at the same time simultaneously. This ability to perform the dual tasks will play a key role in overcoming problems arising in consecutive interpretation and performing consecutive interpretation successfully.
