This paper focuses on a teaching method of Korean-into-English consecutive interpretation. Diverse aspects regarding interpretation were presented in this study: major types of interpretation, qualities of an interpreter. structural comparison of Korean and English, and techniques for Korean-into-English consecutive interpretation. In consecutive interpretation, the interpreter is prone to make errors and omissions when he/she concentrates on individual words rather than on the ideas of the message. Therefore, the interpreter is required to do a dual task of analyzing the speech while taking notes efficiently at the same time. The interpreter s notetaking techniques are important in his/her performance. For a more effective training method of consecutive interpretation moving from Korean into English, this paper proposes a note-taking system utilizing signs, symbols, and abbreviations, and a new method of using the space of the interpreter s notes, in consideration of the verb-final structure of the Korean language.
