Text-type Changes in Film Translation

Film translation, or subtitling, has never before enjoyed an academic attention as it does now. It has a lot to do with the fact that culture is beginning to play a more important role in society at large than ever. This paper aims to study the relations between reduction in film translation and changes among text types. Film translators are under a constant pressure to reduce their translation for enhancing readability for their audience. But reduction usually comes with a price: change in message. There are three kinds of change detected in film translation: the loss of information, change in text types, and the loss of humor.
