The aim of this paper is to explore methodologies of translation training for graduate schools of Translation and Interpretation responsible for producing professional translators. To that end, this paper examines the possibility of employing the theory of Expertise, one of teaching models advocated by the field of cognitive psychology, as a method of training prospective professional translators. In this paper, to explore ways of acquiring the expertise in translation, the theory of Expertise is briefly introduced as a theoretical background of expertise acquisition and looks at the differences between experts and novices which are commonly found in various fields. And then, this paper defines knowledge structure and flexible reasoning capability, general characteristics of experts, as the expertise commonly required for the two stages of comprehension and production in the process of translation. Lastly, as a way of obtaining such expertise, this paper proposes the utilization of texts with different degrees of difficulty. In using texts with different degrees of difficulty as a method of acquiring translation expertise, selecting proper texts is more important than anything else. Therefore, recognizing such importance, this paper looks at which factors should be considered in selecting texts for different levels of translation practices.
