This paper deals with the translation of proper names (PN) in non-fiction texts. Proper names refer to “names of a particular person, place or thing and are spelled “with a capital letter”. They may refer to the setting, social status and nationality of characters, and really demand attention when rendered into a foreign language. Proper names can be translated in a number of ways. First, a PN can be transported totally from the target text. Second, it can be partly transported and translated from the source language. Thirdly, it can be replaced with different names in the target language. Also it can be dispensed with altogether. The choice between the various alternatives will be determined by pragmatic factors and purpose of the text and the translator s assessment of target audience. In this paper, a number of proper names in KOREANA , a quartely on Korean art & Culture were examined to see the korean-Arabic translation methods which were taken by translators to narrow the gap between different cultures.
