Comparative Analysis of Urban Spatial Configuration between Seoul and Pyongyang City Using Space Syntax

This study has intended to verify what of logic Seoul, the capital of the Republic of Korea, and Pyongyang, the capital of the Republic of the Joseon People s Democracy, which are divided due to ideological differences, was changed through, to intend to compare and contrast the ways in which the city environments have changed and to determine the varying characteristics of both city spaces in order to present a theoretical basis for the incoming unification. Furthermore, this study employed a space syntax analysis through axial maps of 1930s and 2000s for the analysis of spatial configurations before and after the systems s changes. As a result, we found that two cities have shown a different land-use pattern and landscape at the core of the cities according to ideological differences between them. In addition to, some representative indicator values of space syntax such as integration , connectivity have changed, in particular, in case of core analysis of two cities, the result has shown any different changing pattern of the cities under the ideological differences.
