특성화고등학교(자동차계열) 영어교과 개선을 위한 교수요목 분석 연구

A Syllabus Analysis for English Curriculum Development of Korean Vocational high schools in Automobile Fields

본 연구는 특성화고등학교(자동차계열)에서 사용하고 있는 공업영어의 교수 요목을 특성화고 재학생, 졸업생, 현장의 자동차분야 전문가들의 요구 분석을 바탕으로 영어교과교육과정에 반영하기 위함이다. 요구 분석을 위한 설문은 2016년 11월 28일 부터 약 2주간 온라인 및 오프라인을 통해 설문을 진행하였다. 결과는 리커르트 척도와 평정 척도로 구성되었고 기술 통계를 사용하여 평균과 표준편차를 살펴보았다. 연구의 결과 첫째, 공업영어(기계영어) 교과에서의 영어 네 기능 중 가장 직무에 필요한 기능은 읽기이며 직무에 필요하지만 부족한 부분은 어휘였다. 현 교재의 교수 요목 중 각종 부품 읽기, 전공 분야 내용 이해하기가 가장 직무 연관이 높다고 답하 였고, 영어 이력서 쓰기, 전화 응대 등은 직무 연관성이 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 자동차 현장 전문가 및 졸업생, 도제 과정 학생들의 경우 자신의 진로를 위해 직무와 관련된 영어를 교과에서 배워야 한다고 대답하는 경향이 높았으며 현장에서 일한 경험이 없는 비도제 자동차 전공 학생들의 경우 일반 영어를 배우는 것을 더 선호하였 다. 이는 공업영어(기계영어)의 교수 요목이 현장의 직무와 연관성이 낮기에 학생들의 진로를 위한 평생 교육을 위해 자동차 현장 직무에 도움이 되도록 현재의 특성화 고(자동차계열) 영어 교육과정에 반영할 필요가 있다

The purpose of this paper is to analyse English syllabus based on the needs of students, graduates, and workers in the automotive fields. For this, the current Vocational English text book was analyzed and categorized in the questionnaires. Based on this analysis and the literature reviews, the content of the questionnaires for the needs analysis consisted of target needs of the practical use of English in the fields, the preference of the topic when learning English, and the frequency of English uses in the fields. The results of the analysis are as follows: First, reading parts in two types of the Vocational English textbooks are related to the field among four English skills. Especially, reading of the labels on the parts of automobiles and general understanding of the passages are highly related to the work fields. Second, as the goal of the vocational English textbooks, the students in the work field answered they want to learn the automobile-specialized topic in the textbook. However, the general students(not in the field), graduates and workers in the field preferred the general topic for the jobs in the field. The results suggested that the contents of the Vocational English textbooks are not possibly applied to the automobile work fields and it would be more helpful for the students to learn English with the general topics for English fluency and for the work field.
