Analysis of Change in Migration Patterns and Industrial Structure before and after the construction of Sejong city.

This study aims to investigate changes in migration patterns and industrial structure of Sejong city before and after the construction of Sejong city. In doing so, we read national migration database and economic Census data from the National Statistical Office between 2010 and 2015. Major findings from the analysis can be summarized as follows. First and most importantly, Sejong city has attracted substantial amount of migrants from Daejeon city, rather than people from the Seoul metropolitan area, indicating that the new administrative city has hardly succeed its intended policy goals such as relieving the Capital region’s over-concentration problem and achieving the balanced national development. Second, as a positive side, industrial structure of Sejong city has transformed from manufacturing-oriented to public administrative and social and business service-oriented industries.
