This paper examines main growth factors of the port logistics industry in three metropolitan cities covering the years from 2005-2013 using the input-output structural decomposition analysis. The results showed that growth of the port logistics industry in Busan was dominated by export demand . The contribution rate of the export demand growth increased from 57.51% in 2005-2010 to 86.57% in 2010-2013, and the contribution rate to the final demand growth increased from 9.60% in 2005-2010 to 22.53% in 2010-2013. Growth of the port logistics industry in Ulsan was driven also by export demand in 2005-2013. The contribution rate of technological change was the lowest in 2005-2010, but due to an efficient improvement of port logistics industry technology, technological change in 2010-2013 greatly increased to 35.04%. In Incheon, the contribution rate of export demand increased from 32.29% in 2005-2010 to 125.74% in 2010-2013, but the contribution rate of technological change decreased from 37.74% in 2005-2010 to -17.47% in 2010-2013. Thus, since the contribution rates of growth of the port logistics industries in the three metropolitan cities show different results by region, period, and factor, each local government unit needs to prepare applicable policies for cultivating its own port logistics industry considering the dominant growth factors of the region.
