만 2세 영아의 생활주제에 따른 상징놀이의 발달적 효과

Effects of Symbolic Play Based on Themes on 2-Year-Olds’ Development

본 연구의 목적은 생활주제에 따른 상징놀이가 만 2세 영아의 놀이를 확장해줌으로써 발달에 긍정적인 효과를 미치는지를 살펴보는 데 있다. D시에 소재한 Y어린이집 만 2세 영아 15명(남 10명, 여 5명)과 M어린이집 만 2세 영아 15명(남 7명, 여 8명)을 각각 실험집단과 비교집단으로 하여 실험집단은 12주에 걸쳐 다양한 생활주제에 기초한 상징놀이를 하도록 하였다. 연구결과, 생활주제에 따른 상징놀이가 실험집단 만 2세 영아의 사회-의사소통, 사회-정서, 인지 발달 향상에 모두 긍정 적인 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과는 만 2세 영아에게도 전통적인 소꿉놀이를 넘어서서 보다 다양한 일상생활 경험에 기초한 생활주제에 토대를 둔 상징놀이가 영아의 근접발달영 역을 확장해줄 수 있는 긍정적인 역할을 할 수 있음을 확증한다.

This study aims to examine the effects of symbolic play which were facilitated in connection with curriculum themes on 2-year-olds development. The study subjects were 15 2-year-old toddlers(10 boys, 5 girls) enrolled in Y child care center, and another 15 2-year-olds(7 boys, 8 girls) in M child care center, both located in D city. The results of the study showed that symbolic play based on various educational themes had positive effects on the socio-communicative, socio-emotional, and cognitive development of the 2-year-olds in the experimental group. These findings imply that educators should overcome the limited Piagetian perspective that often underestimates infant-toddlers’ capabilities, and the enrichment of symbolic play based on various themes from young children’ daily experiences, beyond the typical household play, can expand the zone of proximal development for 2-year-olds.
