Review of Photographic Works in SNS(Social Network Service)

Today, with the development of digital technology and the spread of the Internet and smart-phones, we can easily obtain a lot of information in everyday life. It does not just accept information, it also produces information and communicates with others through digital technology. In the case of SNS, where users have been explosively increased due to the spread of smart-phones and the use of wireless Internet, the number of users having been constantly increasing not only in Korea but also in the world. The use of SNS has the advantage of revealing itself to others, sharing their daily lives, forming a global network, and transferring useful information. However, inappropriate use of SNS can cause many problems in various fields such as protection of personal information, copyright infringement, pornography dissemination. We can post text, photos, videos, etc. on the SNS. Among the most popular types of digital cameras and smart-phones are photos. Under current copyright law in Korea, photographic works are protected as a type of work. There is a possibility that indiscriminate posting of contents performed without an overall understanding of copyright can infringe the copyright of others. Furthermore, if accumulated for a long period of time at the same time, it could cause serious social problems. Therefore, in the utilization of SNS, first of all, interest in the usage of legitimate works and understanding of copyright should be prioritized, and clear standards for copyright infringement should be established and regulated. This article deals with the photographic works recognized by the Copyright Act as one of the most commonly used photo posts on the SNS, thereby helping users understand them. In addition, recent examples of copyrighted works of photographic works and copyright infringement cases of photographic works in SNS have been examined. I have specifically described which SNS posts are protected as photographic works. The protection solution of photographic works in SNS is suggested through the review. It is meaningful to look at and review the overall photographic works in SNS.
